Jonesboro Murder Victim Was Struck By Stray Bullet

Investigators say the Jonesboro man who died in a weekend shooting incident at his home was apparently struck by a stray bullet intended for his son-in-law.

Grant County Sheriff’s Department investigators say 81-year old Gene Thompson was apparently in bed late Saturday night when he was struck by a bullet that passed through a wall.  He died while being transported to Marion General Hospital.

Police say two men apparently argued with 51-year old Larry Pavey and fired four shots at him, striking him three times.  But the fourth bullet killed Gene Thompson.

Pavey was released from Marion General Hospital on Tuesday.

Police continue to search for the two suspects in the case.  They say a motive in the case is still not clear.
