Cursive Writing Bill Passes Indiana Senate

A measure that would require Indiana schools to again teach cursive writing to students has passed the Indiana Senate.

The Senate yesterday approved the bill, which would require each Indiana school corporation, charter school and accredited nonpublic elementary school to include cursive writing in their curriculum. The bill that was authored by State Senator Jean Leising passed on a vote of 38 to 11.

Leising says cursive writing is a simple, yet necessary skill still used in society, and it needs to be a part of children’s educational foundation.
