City Will Have To Pay For Adams Street Demolition

It looks like the cost of demolishing a building on South Adams Street will fall on the city of Marion and not the owners of the structure.

An Upland couple was given the building at 714 South Adams by former State Representative P. Eric Turner to be converted into a site for artists and performers to gather and display their talents.  But the building cannot be repaired and has been condemned.  But the owners’ attorney has advised them not to put their own money into the demolition.

Marion Mayor Jess Alumbaugh isn’t happy about the matter, but accepts the blame for the situation.

That structure is attached to another building that has not been condemned, making its’ removal more expensive.

Mayor Alumbaugh says the City Attorney is investigating the matter to see what can be done.
