Indiana Children In Welfare Has Doubled Since 2013

The number of children in Indiana’s welfare system is nearly double what it was just 5 years ago.

The Villages of Indiana is Indiana’s largest not-for-profit child and family services agency. Villages President Sharon Pierce says opioid addictions have contributed to that increase and accounts for nearly 60-percent of Hoosier children entering the welfare system.

In 2013, there were about 15-thousand Indiana children in the welfare system, now there are more than 29-thousand children needing support.
