Marion firefighters say a fire outside a home in the 200-block of North Western Avenue Monday night was an apparent case of arson.
Firefighters were called to the scene when a passer-by noticed the flames outside of the home and called 9-1-1. The son of the homeowner grabbed a garden hose and began fighting the blaze. Firefighters say he had it nearly under control by the time they arrived and his efforts significantly lessened the damaged to the outside of the house.
Investigators say it appears someone used a pile of old clothes to ignite the fire, trying the set the house on fire from the outside.
Damage was minimal, but fire investigators say it intentionally set.
