Candidate Filings As Deadline Approaches

There are now five persons running for Mayor in Marion this year, as three more filed Thursday.

Incumbent Democrat Jess Alumbaugh yesterday filed his paperwork to seek re-election to the Mayor’s office…and he’ll have opposition in the May Primary.  Democratic City Councilwoman Lynn Johnson filed for the Mayor’s office, meaning she’ll give up her spot on the City Council to run for Mayor.

Also filing for Mayor yesterday was perennial Republican candidate Raymond Glass. Republican City Council members Steve Henderson and David Homer filed for the G-O-P Mayor’s nomination earlier.

Several people filed for Marion City Council seats yesterday.  Republican Brian Cowgill is seeking an at-large berth on the City Council.  Evan Gilmore is seeking an at-large seat as a Democrat.  And Robert Barber has filed as a Democrat to seek the Ward 4 seat on the City Council.

Meanwhile, Republican David White filed for an at-large seat on the Matthews Town Council yesterday.

The deadline to file to run for office in the May Primary is noon today.
