Sustainability Week – Taylor University

Sustainability Week, a week during which students and faculty from Taylor University learn about challenges facing the earth’s environment and ways they can act in response to those challenges, is underway on the Upland campus.

According to Dr. Phil Grabowski, Assistant Professor of Sustainable Development at Taylor, the goal of the week’s activities is to be better stewards of the planet and environment to the benefit of future generations and as an act of worship.

“Taylor is hosting a series of events to raise awareness among students and the broader community about the need to care for the environment as part of our biblical calling to be good stewards of God’s creation,” he said. “In our modern lifestyle we consume a great deal of resources and create significant amounts of unnecessary waste. Working towards sustainability means taking responsibility for our actions and reducing the indirect harms to other creatures and to other people.”

Events highlighting the weeklong observation began Wednesday and will continue through this Friday.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday, April 2 – Sustainability Forum Food Choices and Sustainability: The social, environmental and nutritional effects of what we eat.  The forum will include panelists and student testimonials.  Cornwall Auditorium 7:00 pm
  • Friday, April 5 – Trash Art Competition deadline to submit an entry is 12:00 pm, at Wheeler Stage, Boren Center
  • Friday, April 5 – Trash Art Competition winners announced, Wheeler Stage, 6:00 pm
