Indiana Blood Center sees 20 percent drop in donations

Summertime typically sees a decline in life-saving blood donations. To ensure a healthy blood supply the Indiana Blood Center asks donors to mark World Blood Donor Day Friday by scheduling two blood donations over the next few months.

During the summer months the blood center experiences a nearly 20 percent drop in donations, according to Dr. Charles Miraglia, president of the Indiana Blood Center.

Anyone age 17 or older in good health who meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to give. Parental consent is required for donors age 16 to give.

Donors should bring a photo ID that includes their birth date. If those interested in donating blood are wondering if they can, donation eligibility requirements are available online.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 317-916-5150 or visit Indiana Blood Center online.
