City opposes I&M rate hikes

The Marion City Council is opposing proposed Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) rate hikes, according to The Chronicle Tribune.

I&M is asking for a nearly 12 percent rate increase to help cover project and program costs.

The Chronicle reported that Marion Utilities Director Chuck Binkerd said the hike would impact the city significantly. He added that utilities spends roughly $500,000 per year on electricity and the city has a similar bill.
