Kokomo-area Head Start still accepting full-day preschool applications

Head Start officials want Howard, Tipton, and Miami county parents to know that Head Start still has full-day preschool options available for the 2019-2020 school year for three and four-year-olds.

The Head Start program accepts income-eligible children and families.

If your preschool-aged child lives in the Kokomo, Western, Northwestern, Eastern, Taylor, Tipton, Tri-Central, Maconaquah, North Miami, or Peru school districts, you can learn more about the Kokomo-area Head Start high-quality preschool program, by contacting Carmen Eltringham at the Head Start office at (765) 454-7082.

Head Start applications are available at Darrough Chapel Early Learning Center, 900 S. Goyer Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To begin the application process, families will need the following: Proof of Income (current tax return OR paycheck stubs from the past 30 days, SSI/SSA, current AFDC/TANF, or Child Support documentation); Child’s Birth Certificate; Child’s Up-to-Date Shot Records; Current Lead Blood Screen Results; Current Hemoglobin Results; Parent/Guardian’s License/Photo I.D.; Medicaid or other Insurance Card; and WIC & SNAP numbers, if applicable.

Head Start provides daily meals, an on-site nurse, assistance with medical and dental needs, personal family advocates, parent and family engagement programming, and research-based curriculum.

Head Start children receive nearly $7,000 in services for free.

A child must be three or four-years-old by Aug. 1, 2019, to enroll.
