PTA president accused of embezzling more than $20K

A PTA president has turned herself into Mishawaka Police after being accused of embezzlement.

Chastity Edmonson is charged with felony theft.

Mishawaka Police say she embezzled more than $20,000 from the Mishawaka PTA Council and two elementary schools in early 2018.

Proceeds from a candy sale at Liberty Elementary School were among the first to go missing, reports WNDU-TV.

Edmonson told police she was going through a tough time and needed the money to pay for her children’s sports teams and cover her personal bills.

Court documents say Edmonson has paid some of the money back but still owes about $9,000.
