Former Swayzee clerk-treasurer asked to pay back $45,000

Swayzee’s former clerk-treasurer, James Hall, has been asked to reimburse taxpayers about $45,000.

The Chronicle-Tribune reports the Indiana State Board of Accounts stats Swayzee submitted late payments for federal payroll withholding and sales tax remittances as well as utility payments from June 2016 through the end of 2017.

According to the Tribune, the reimbursement covers penalty fees, interest and charges the town occurred over the three years of alleged payment mishandling.

Hall resigned at the beginning of this year.
