BREAKING: GM, UAW reach tentative agreement

General Motors and the United Auto Workers union have reached a tentative deal on a new labor contract.

The UAW GM National Negotiators and UAW GM Vice President Terry Dittes announced the achievement of a Proposed Tentative Agreement with General Motors.

The agreement could end the union’s month-long strike, the UAW said Wednesday.

Details of the tentative deal were yet to be made available at the time of writing.

But, CNBC reports the union’s 48,000 or so members are expected to receive raises and bonuses in the agreement.

Until the UAW Council reviews and votes to approve the proposed tentative agreement the strike will continue. During the Oct. 17 meeting, the Council will decide whether to continue the strike until ratification concludes or to stop the strike at the time of the Council’s approval of the agreement, according to a union news release.

This story will be updated as more information is made available.
