Nation’s largest coal mining company files for bankruptcy

The nation’s largest coal mining company has filed for bankruptcy.

Ohio-based Murray Energy filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday. Chairman and CEO Bob Murray will step down and his nephew, Robert Moore, will take over the company as it restructures.

The company employs about 5,000 people, nearly half of which are union workers.

Bob Murray was a major donor for President Trump, who focused on rebuilding the U.S. coal industry during the 2016 election.
