MPD: Two burglary suspects charged after running from police

Marion Police Department officers charged two suspects after receiving a call about a possible burglary in progress.

The incident happened around 10:42 p.m. when MPD officers were en route to a residence after a report that an individual was trying to enter a home’s northside window, according to MPD Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey.

According to Dorsey, Capt. Chris Butche arrived in the area and noticed two males in the 70o block of S. Gallatin St. and near 215 W. Seventh St. Butche ordered the two individuals to speak with him at which time the pair ran. Butche gave chase and witnessed them run inside 215 W. Seventh St., Apt B.

He then ordered the two men to open the door as the two men attempted to barricade themselves inside the apartment. Butche was able to kick the door in to gain entry. Other officers arrived and assisted Butche inside the apartment.

Once inside, Butche identified the two men that ran from him among other individuals that were inside the apartment. Both individuals were taken into custody and identified.

Officers also located a Smith & Wesson, 9 mm handgun lying on the ground that appeared to have been thrown from the upstairs window. Brenton Clark admitted that the weapon was in fact his.

Charged were 50-year-old Frederick Holis, whose homeless, and 25-year-old Marion resident Brenton T. Clark.

Holis was charged with resisting law enforcement and Clark was charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 Felony, possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 Felony, and possession of methamphetamine, aLevel 4 Felony.

The narcotics were found on Clarks person at the time of his arrest.

Holis and Clark were transported to the Grant Co. Jail without incident.
