City of Marion ‘Christmas City USA’ event information

The following is a press release from the City of Marion.

The Walkway of Lights Committee and lots of local partners are putting finishing touches on the 1st Annual Christmas City USA Downtown Event to take place this Saturday. A sunny day in store for a full day and night of festivities Downtown, Marion, IN (Noon to 10pm).

When you come Downtown this Saturday you’ll find food trucks throughout the day, musical and theatrical performances in many spots, family fun including balloon sculpting & face painting (free), trolley rides into the Walkway of Lights ($3/adults, $2/child), and people-mover rides around the Courthouse for $1/person.

The bulk of activity will take place in both the Boston Hill Center (428 S. Washington St.) and the Marion Municipal Building (301 S. Branson St.), where full itineraries and map will be handed out. So, either of these two locations would be a good place to start. Free pictures with Santa is also taking place at City Hall!

And then the parade with a new punch! The parade will begin at 7pm, and there will be a new route: It will start at the YMCA, go south on Washington St. to 6th St, then will head east on 6th St. to Adams St., back north on Adams to 1st St., then west on 1st to Washington, then back across the river to the Y, basically circling Downtown, Marion. The tree-lighting ceremony will take place following the parade at approximately 9pm on the Courthouse lawn. With all eyes on the sky during the tree lighting, fireworks will also be set off for all to enjoy.

*The place to check the full itinerary and any updates is the Walkway of Lights’ Christmas City USA Downtown Event Page on Facebook:

There will also be signs posted throughout downtown the morning of the event showing where and when individual events will be happening. Christmas City USA Downtown Event information has been in the newspaper, on the radio, on table tents in restaurants, passed out on brochures, and more.

The itinerary is attached to this announcement along with a resourceful map with the parade route, places participating, and other helpful info such as parking.
