Indiana basketball legends to speak at Kokomo’s Memorial Gym tomorrow

Basketball legends Tom Bolyard, Jerry Harkness, Bob and Nancy Leonard, Darnell Hillman and Purdue men’s basketball coach Matt Painter have stories to tell about the late Jimmy Rayl.

They will share those stories Thursday morning in front of hundreds of the basketball legend’s fans inside Kokomo’s Memorial Gym when the City of Kokomo announces the honorary renaming of a city street to “Jimmy Rayl Boulevard.”

The public is invited to attend this free event set to begin inside Memorial Gym at 10:00 a.m. Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore will begin the event by reading and presenting a proclamation to the Rayl family. After presentations by Rayl’s former basketball teammates, coaches and friends, Mayor Moore will invite the Rayl family to assist with unveiling a seven-foot street sign proclaiming, “Jimmy Rayl Boulevard.”

Jimmy Rayl Biography: 1959 Mr. Basketball, Indiana University’s 1962 MVP, IU’s single-game scoring record (56 points), original Indiana Pacer, scorer of Pacer’s first 3-pointer, member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame and Howard County Sports Hall of Fame

The event is taking place this Thursday at 10 a.m. inside Kokomo’s Memorial Gymnasium.
