Marion General Hospital Suspends “Non-Urgent” Surgeries

Source: MGH Press Release

Effective March 18, 2020, Marion General Hospital will be canceling all elective non-urgent surgeries.  This action is in response to Gov. Holcomb’s announcement on March 16, 2020 to take more steps to slow the spread of COVID-19.

This action will assist the healthcare system with conserving resources and personnel necessary to meet emerging health needs and protect against exposure.  We will continue to provide necessary emergent procedures prioritizing care that, if delayed, could negatively affect the patient’s health outcome.  On March 16, 2020, the hospital’s visitor restrictions have enhanced, as well.  They are as follows:

No visitors will be permitted to the acute care (inpatient) areas of the Hospital.  Exceptions will be considered in the following areas where a patient may receive one (1) designated visitor:

  • Emergency Department
  • Surgery
  • Pediatrics
  • Special Care Nursery

For Obstetrics and end of life situations, two (2) visitors will be allowed per patient.

Visitors will be required to show identification at check-in (to verify they are the patient’s designated visitor), complete a respiratory illness risk screening and wear a visitor badge at all times while in the Hospital.

Visitors will be permitted to stay with a patient during the admission process, should the patient require admission.  Visitation restrictions for the admitting unit will then apply and be enforced.
