City Council Considers Trash Transfer to City Utilities
The Marion City Council is considering a proposal that would switch the responsibility and cost of trash collection to Marion Utilities.
City officials are considering the move because the city currently is losing money on trash collection through its contract with Wabash Valley Trash Services. They say the city has lost population since the current contract was signed with Wabash Valley and because of that the city is losing about 140-thousand dollars a year.
Several Council members last night said regardless of who oversees the trash collection, rates must increase soon to at least make the service break even.
Council members say they also need further study of the issue before deciding what to do.
