Flu Deaths In Indiana Jump Dramatically

State Health officials say 29 people died of the flu or flu-related illness just last week in Indiana, and the numbers have been increasing steadily.

The State Health Department now says 79 deaths caused by the flu have occurred this season. Most of the victims were over the age of 50.

Health officials say the flu virus has been widespread this year, prompting many hospitals to restrict visits to patients. Hamilton and Shelby Counties have been hardest hit with six deaths each. Marion and St. Joseph Counties have each seen five.
