Tony Cook Bill On Education Finances Passes House

A bill authored by State Representative Tony Cook of Cicero that would make it easier for school corporations to use their available finances has passed the Indiana House.

Cook’s bill would allow schools more flexibility when using funds that are normally earmarked for specific purposes.   But under his proposal, schools would be able to move money from their rainy day fund to the operations fund for expenditures, as well as transfer the unused money at the end of the year from the operations fund to be used for educational staffing expenses such as teacher bonuses and stipends.

Cook says the change would just make sense.

Cook’s bill now moves to the Indiana Senate for further action.
