Alumbaugh Gives 2018 State of City Address

While praising the efforts of city workers and private organizations on their work in improving the city, Marion Mayor Jess Alumbaugh said the city is still facing financial hardships…and the next year will be tough for Marion.

During Wednesday’s “State of the City” address, Mayor Alumbaugh cited the recent report from Umbaugh and Associates regarding the city’s financial picture.

Alumbaugh said an upcoming report from Standard & Poors will urge the city to talk about raising taxes and finding other sources of revenue.

But the mayor said there’s growing interest in downtown development regarding housing.  Alumbaugh said Indiana Wesleyan University is even considering developing student housing in the downtown area, though no concrete plans have been announced yet.

And the mayor even confirmed that he will seek re-election in 2019 so he can complete the work he has started in his first term.
