An Indiana State Police Officer from the Peru Post who died in the line of duty 36-years ago could have a portion of U-S 31 named for him in his memory.
State Representative Bill Friend has introduced a resolution in the Indiana House that would re-name a one-mile section of U-S 31 near the Grissom Air Reserve Base as the “Indiana State Trooper Robert Lather Memorial Mile.”
Trooper Lather was killed in an accident while trying to stop a speeding motorist near that location in 1982.
The Indiana Legislature could act on the resolution today.
