Legislature To Study Divorce Laws

Indiana lawmakers will study the state’s current divorce laws this summer to determine whether changes should be made.

State Senator Mike Delph said he authored the resolution after one of his constituents was left with a significant financial burden when her husband of 25 years left her and her children.

Under current Indiana law, rehabilitative spousal maintenance may last a maximum of three years from the time the divorce is finalized. Child support payments, including tuition support for post-secondary education, are no longer required when the child turns 19.
