Hunt On Old Y-TIF Suit Costs & Dates

The lawsuit filed by the City of Marion over the bond issue that was given to developers for the renovation of the old Grant County Y-M-C-A building probably won’t go to trial for at least another year.

City Attorney Tom Hunt submitted a bill to the City Board of Works Monday seeking payment for the legal firm of Ice-Miller that is representing the city.  The bill was for 238-thousand dollars for their costs so far in the case.  Hunt said most of the costs have come in gathering legal documents in the Discovery phase of the case.

The city gave three-million dollars in bonds paid for through Tax Increment Financing money on the old Y for the renovation.  The work was started but was never finished.  The city filed suit to get the money back.

Hunt says the suits filed against separate defendants have been joined together by the judge in the case, but he says it’s unlikely the matter will go to court until sometime in early to mid-2019 at the earliest.
