State To Use ISTEP 2 More Years

This spring was supposed to be the final use of Indiana’s much maligned standardized test, the ISTEP.  Now, it looks like the test will hang around for another two years.

The test, given at the end of each school year and meant to measure how well Indiana students know the academic standards assigned to their grade, was to be replaced with a newer, sleeker version.

The new test…ILEARN…will be offered next spring in elementary and middle schools, but high school students will still take the 10th-grade ISTEP test.  Originally, the 10th-grade ISTEP was supposed to be replaced with end-of-course assessments for Algebra I, English 10 and Biology and a final exam in U-S government at the end of their senior year.
