State officials have awarded a 79-million dollar contract to widen a section of Interstate 69 to six lanes from Pendleton to the south side of Anderson.
The project includes nearly nine miles of new construction and another seven miles of pavement maintenance. No startup date has been set so far.
Anderson economic development officials say the I-69 widening will reduce travel time to Indianapolis and make that city more attractive to new residents.
Previous projects have widened I-69 to at least six lanes between I-465 and the Pendleton area.
