Jonesboro Teen Charged In Smith Robbery & Murder

A 17-year old Jonesboro girl has been charged as an adult in connection with the murder of a Summitville man last month.  Her arrest is the third in connection with the murder of Drake Smith, whose body was discovered in a wooded area in Miami County in May.

State Police say the 22-year old Smith was apparently murdered as part of a plot to steal his money and drugs.

Investigators say 17-year Brittany Morris of Jonesboro apparently lured Smith to the site where he was found.  21-year Ethan Cain of Marion and 23-year old Joshua Kean of LaFontaine were waiting to rob Smith, but Cain used a pipe to beat Smith to death.  After killing him, they robbed Smith of his money, drugs and even his clothes, they left his body in the wooded area.  Police later found the pipe used to kill Smith along Highway 15 in northern Grant County.

Cain and Kean fled to California where they were captured about a week later.  They have still not been returned to Indiana to face charges.  Cain is expected to be charged by Miami County authorities with the actual murder of Smith along with several other counts.  Kean and Morris will be charged with aiding in the killing as well as several other crimes.  All three face long prison terms if convicted.
