The decision on the aging Borderman Gym in Converse is no decision right now. The Town Council has put the decision on hold for the time being while they study its’ future further.
The nearly 100-year old gym once was the gymnasium for Converse High School before consolidation. It’s been used as a community center since then, but has fallen into disrepair.
Town spokesman Andy Horner says the decision was delayed, partly because of a lack of money, but also because leaders want to make the right deicsion.
Horner said an earlier study of the gym came up with three possible options: one was to fully repair the gym and add an adjoining structure to be used as a community center…a second option would be to tear it down and build a new facility…while a third option was to only repair the gym.
