State To Offer Hand-Held Scanners To Schools

Governor Eric Holcomb announced changes in school safety efforts on Monday, saying the new program will offer free handheld metal detectors to schools that want them.

The program will make one handheld metal detector device available for every 250 students in traditional public, charter and accredited non-public schools in the state.

Indiana State Police and the Department of Administration will coordinate the program. Schools can already submit requests and the first order for the handheld metal detectors will be made next week. Schools that submit their order early are expected to receive them in time for the upcoming school year.
