The Indiana World War I Centennial Committee will commemorate the first U-S female Marine with a special ceremony in Kokomo’s Foster Park Monday on the 100th anniversary of her enlistment.
Opha May Johnson of Kokomo became the first woman enlisted in the Marines’ on August 13th of 1918 and she’ll be honored during Monday’s ceremony at Foster Park at noon.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
