Kokomo Receives Grant For Historic Rail House

An early1850s Railroad Workers house in Kokomo has received a grant for its restoration from a Central Indiana Community Foundation Fund. The five-thousand dollar grant was made to the Howard County Historical Society on behalf of the City of Kokomo.

The house on Buckeye Street is thought to have been built as temporary lodging for workers who were building the rail line connecting Indianapolis to Peru in the 1850s.

The house was purchased by the City of Kokomo in 2017 as part of the city’s efforts to develop the Industrial Heritage Trail.
