Part of Frances Slocum State Forest To Be Logged

A part of the Frances Slocum State Forest is set to be logged as part of a plan by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to restore native hardwood trees at the site.

A 91-acre tract that runs between the Mississinewa River and the forest’s access road southeast of Peru has been pegged for the project.  An exact date for the start of logging hasn’t been set, but it could come during the winter so as to not disrupt recreational activities.

An environmental group is opposed to the plan, saying it could disrupt the bald eagle nesting program in the area.
