Hepatitis-A Discovered At Café Valley In Marion

Local health department officials say quick action by leaders at Café Valley in Marion prevented what could have been a serious outbreak of Hepatitis-A.

Hepatitis-A is a flu-like illness that can linger in patients if not treated properly. The highly contagious disease was confirmed in one worker at the plant, but Health Department spokesman Dale Carr says company officials took the right steps to handle the situation by contacting the County Health Department and the State Department of Health.

Carr says preventative shots were ordered for those who could have come in contact with the affected employee.

Several employees received shots and will have to get a follow-up shot within six-months to prevent a reoccurrence.  But Carr said quick action by Café Valley and health officials prevented what could have been a serious situation.
