Leland Boren Dies

Grant County industrialist and philanthropist Leland Boren died unexpectedly over the weekend.  He was 95.

Boren grew up in Anderson, and became head of the Pierce Governor Company and moved it to Upland in the 1950s.  The company became the Avis Industrial Group in 1971.  Boren also helped to create a number of other companies in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Boren and his late wife LaRita were also very active philanthropists, having formed the Boren Foundation, which benefitted countless charities as well as Taylor, Indiana Wesleyan, Huntington, Ball State and Anderson Universities.

Funeral services for Leland Boren are pending.
