Gun Rights Bill Dies Without Vote In Legislature

A gun rights bill is in limbo after a House deadline passed Monday without a vote.

Indiana law bans guns on school property. That ends up banning guns in churches which have schools attached. Auburn Republican Ben Smaltz’s bill would have let churches override that restriction, but the term “school property” turns up in many state laws, and Smaltz says legislators realized belatedly that changing the definition of the term in one law could create problems for other laws.

Smaltz says the provision could still be added to another gun-related bill this year.
