Lugar Series to honor Pacers executive Mel Raines with Nancy A. Maloley Outstanding Public Servant Award

The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series is honored to name Mel Raines as the 2019 Nancy A. Maloley Outstanding Public Service Award recipient in recognition of her tireless commitment to Indiana and to her country. The award will be presented at the Lugar Series 29th Annual Luncheon at the Indiana Rooftop Ballroom on April 5, 2019.

The Nancy A. Maloley Outstanding Public Service Award, established in 2002 after the Lugar family lost a dear friend, recognizes a Hoosier Republican woman who has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to serving the public through appointed governmental or political office.

“Mel is a political trailblazer with extensive experience staging Republican National Conventions and serving officials in the White House and in Congress,” said Anne Hathaway, executive director of Lugar Series. “Mel’s commitment to public service is infectious – which personifies the award’s namesake, Nancy Maloley.”

Currently, Mel serves as Senior Vice President for Pacers Sports and Entertainment where she oversees the strategic direction of facilities operation and manages more than 50 full-time and hundreds of part-time employees.

Her career trajectory in politics, government and sport is extensive – having served in the offices of former Senator Dan Coats, former Vice President Dick Cheney and current Congresswomen Susan Brooks. In addition, she successfully planned and executed five Republican National Committees between 1996 to 2012 and served as the vice president for the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee.

Past recipients of the Nancy A. Maloley Outstanding Public Servant Award include former State Senator Beverly Gard, former Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, Congresswoman Susan Brooks, United States Federal Justice Sarah Evans Barker and the Honorable Robyn Moberly. The honoree is selected each year by a committee of seasoned public servants and family members of Nancy Maloley and based on dedication to public service, creative approach to problem solving, intellectual competency and effective management and leadership.

Tickets for the Lugar Series 29th Annual Luncheon at the Indiana Rooftop Ballroom on April 5, 2019 can be purchased at www.lugarseries.com
