The Marion board of public works and safety is considering a proposal that would include the arming of  certain fire

department personnel.

At Monday’s meeting, the board tabled a proposal brought by city attorney Tom Hunt and Marion fire investigators calling for the creation of fire “marshalls”.

According to Marion fire chief Jeff Williams, the 3 investigators felt they needed the protection when interviewing arson suspects..

If approved, Brandon Eckstein (Ek’styne), Paul David and Brad Meyers would all take firearms training through the Marion Police Department.

The board is expected to act on the proposal at its next meeting.
