White House’s ‘Space Force’ could be enacted before the end of the year

What started out as a suggestion by the White House administration, then became a national joke, has now become a plan that has the support of Congress members.

Space Force seems to be closer to reality as key lawmakers warn that the U.S. needs to defend itself from Russia and China’s satellite-destroying technology.

House members want to include a budget for the U.S. Space Corps in the upcoming national defense bill. The White House has already requested $14.1 billion for space endeavors.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper says that the U.S. needs to see space “as a warfighting domain.”

A Space Corps. could come before the end of the year and would be the first time in 70 years that a new military service was added.
