ISP: body of missing 10-year-old found in shed behind home

After an exhaustive four-day search for missing Skylea Carmack, 10, the Indiana State Police have confirmed that the child was strangled to death.

Charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, domestic battery resulting in death and strangulation is the child’s 34-year-old step-mother, Amanda Carmack.

At approximately 3 a.m. this morning Skylea’s body was located in a shed behind her Gas City home. Police say she was hidden inside a plastic trash bag.

According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, preliminary evidence indicates Skylea was killed between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

Agencies involved in the search include ISP, the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, fire departments and community volunteers.

Amanda Carmack is currently incarcerated at the Grant County Jail.
