Johnson County bought 320 new voting machines to solve problems of long lines

Electronic voting machines that leave a paper trail will be rolled out for the first time in Johnson County this next election cycle.

Voters in Johnson County remember the slew of problems during municipal elections a few months ago.

Long lines and long waits resulted in a pretty low turn out in voters.

Now the county is spending $1.5 million on 320 new voting machines.

County clerk Trena McLaughlin tells WISH-TV the machines will also record each voter’s ballot on paper before it is locked in electronically. That way each ballot is accurate.
