Marion, Madison-Grant, Oak Hill teachers set to rally at state capitol for Red for Ed Day

This coming Tuesday, Nov. 19, multiple Grant County school teacher associations have chosen to attend Red for Ed Action Day in Indianapolis.

Teachers from Oak Hill, Marion Community Schools and Madison-Grant will be closing the classroom door for a day to pick up a picket sign. There will be no school on this day for these three schools.

Eastbrook teachers have chosen to teach classes, but will be wearing red to symbolically be in support of the movement.

Mississinewa Community Schools will have classes as planned.

Red for Ed takes place on American Education Week and is run by the Indiana State Teacher’s Association. ISTA is asking teachers to rally at the state capitol on Legislative Organizational Day to demand state legislators invest in education.

Teachers want better pay, improvements to the state’s standardized testing practices and better funding.

Those taking part in the rally will resume normal school operations on Wednesday.
