MPD: Man draws gun on teen during alleged prank

A Muncie man is now facing the charge of pointing a loaded firearm after a supposed prank gone wrong.

The incident happened Saturday a little after 5 p.m. in the Big Lots parking lot on S. Western Ave.

The suspect who has been charged is 28-year-old Christopher Rodriguez, who reported that he was selling a pair of Air Jordan brand shoes for his cousin for $60, according to Marion Police Department’s Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey.

Rodriguez was to meet the potential buyer in the parking lot of Big Lots at 5 pm.

Upon arrival, he met with 18-year-old Quintin Jones and 19-year-old Raymone Davis.

Rodriguez reported that Jones took the box to examine the shoes, but then Davis grabbed the shoebox from Jones and began running away.

Rodriguez reported that he turned north onto Western and located Davis near the side of the road in the 1400 block. He got out of his vehicle and confronted Davis at which time he drew his gun and ordered Davis to the ground. Officers arrived at the scene and investigated the incident.

Upon officers speaking with Davis, he immediately stated that this whole thing was a prank. Davis stated that he and his friends were making a prank video for YouTube, and were going to give the shoes back to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was transported to the Grant Co. Jail without incident.

This investigation was submitted to the Grant Co. Prosecutors’ Office for their review of a possible theft charge against Davis for taking possession of the shoes and running away with them.
