Ford announces $1.45 billion investment in Detroit

Ford has announced that the motor company will invest $1.45 billion into the Detroit area by building two new manufacturing plants that will also bring along 3,000 new jobs.

Ford’s reps say $750 million of the investment will go towards the Detroit suburb of Wayne, where 2,700 jobs will be added to the Michigan Assembly plant. The plant in Wayne will focus on producing Ford’s reborn Bronco SUV and Ranger truck.

300 new jobs will be added with a $700 million investment into Dearborn’s truck plant for building F-150s plus electric and hybrid vehicles.

Experts say Ford needs to invest in new technologies like vehicles charged by electricity if the company wants to overcome the industry’s sales peaks at 17 million vehicles annually.
