BREAKING: Colonial Oaks reports two more COVID deaths, jump in case count

Nursing homes across the nation are under attack from COVID-19, including Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marion.

There are now two more residents who’ve died as a result of the virus, bringing the long-term care facilities total to seven. The facility now has 41 residents who have tested positive, 33 of which are housed in a COVID unit at the care home, according to Cullen Gibson, the Chief Operating Officer of TLC Management.

“Were devastated by these losses,” Gibson said. “Our prayers continue that we do not experience any more loss.”

There are also 33 employees who have tested positive. Twenty-six are in quarantine, while seven are asymptomatic and helping to staff the COVID unit.

Across the state, there are 148 long-term care facilities who have at least one positive case. Eighty-five have reported deaths.
There are 1,467 residents in care facilities who now have the virus as of Wednesday afternoon, with 260 reported total deaths.

As of Thursday morning, 10 Grant County residents have died due to the virus, according to Public Health Nurse Amber Turner during an interview on 1400 WBAT’s Good Morning Grant County.

The county has also recorded 139 cases, a jump of nine from Wednesday.

As of Wednesday at noon, there are now an additional 605 Hoosiers who’ve contracted COVID-19, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

That brings to 17,182 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 964 Hoosiers have been confirmed to have died of COVID-19, an increase of 63 over the previous day. Another 101 probable deaths have been reported. Probable deaths are those for which a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause based on X-rays, scans and other clinical symptoms but for which no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 91,550 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 87,181 on Tuesday.

Marion County had the most new cases, at 218. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Allen (26), Cass (27), Dearborn (13), Elkhart (14), Hamilton (19), Hendricks (13), Johnson (13), LaPorte (10), Lake (71), Noble (10), St. Joseph (18) and Wabash (10).
