Got Young Kids? Adopt A Dog…Here’s Why!

Thinking about adopting a dog for your home? If you have young kids, you certainly should.  It will help your kids in more ways than one.

Dogs are awesome, and now we have another reason to have one in our homes. A new study out of Australia concludes that young children living with at least one dog display far stronger emotional and social development than kids with no pups at home.  Many dog owners will back up this study.

Researchers say that kids with a pet dog were 23 percent less likely to have problems with their emotions or social interactions with others than children with no dog at home. Kids from a dog-owning household were also 30 percent less likely to act in an anti-social manner and 40 percent less likely to have trouble hanging out with other kids. Children with dogs are also 34 percent more likely to be considerate toward others (sharing, politeness).

I had dogs as a child.  They teach young kids responsibility, gets them more active (got to walk the dog right?) and they enrich your lives.  Do a little research on the breed that may be best for your home and please consider adopting one from your local shelter.  And don’t sleep on the older ones.  You do not need a young puppy.  A senior dog may be a better fit and you get to give an older dog some love for their golden years.  Either way, if you can devote the time and have young kids, a dog could be just what you need to make your kids…better kids.  Adopt one today!
