The fourth U-S-S Indiana will be commissioned in late September in Florida.
One of only two people still living to have served on the World War II U-S-S Indiana, which was a battleship, is trying to raise money to be there. 92-year old Stan Ashley of Tennessee was an enlisted man who served as a janitor on the ship. He says he remembers his days on the battleship in World War II clearly. Ashley says he’s eager to get to Florida to be part of the commissioning of the new U-S-S Indiana…which is a nuclear submarine.
