County Council Budget Hearings End

The Grant County Council last night wrapped up its’ budget hearings for the 2019 county budget, but despite the amount of work that’s been done, there’s still work to do.

The council went through the budgets of each county department over the past two weeks, approving a few items but slashing where they could.  And still, there are questions about personnel and where to cut and where to add.  Those issues will be dealt with during the council’s regular meetings later this month and in October.

The “Chronicle-Tribune” reports issues of employee raises were brought up and mostly denied during the budget hearings.  County Council members agreed that employees deserve raises, but said there isn’t enough money available to do so.

A final vote on the county’s 2019 budget won’t be taken until October.
