Child drowns in Wabash County

A 2 year old Indianapolis boy died when the vehicle he was a passenger in became submerged after it drove into floodwater along a Wabash County road.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred early Thursday afternoon when a car operated by 22 year old Anthonitte Carter of Indianapolis drove into high water on County Road 925 South.  The current reportedly took the vehicle into higher water, where it became submerged.

Carter escaped the vehicle with help from DNR and Wabash County Sheriff’s officers, but her child, Eric Longer, was not able to be saved.

Carter allegedly did not see the sign on the road indicating the possibility of flooding.  State Police are continuing to investigate.
