Indy Fire Department reminds people to stay safe while using space heaters

If you’re using a space heater to stay warm, you’ll need to do a little bit more than just turn it on and curl up on the couch.

Rita Reith, Batallion Chief with the Indianapolis Fire Department, says you need to pay extra attention when you use a space heater.

She gives tips, like plugging the space heater directly into a wall and not a power strip, make sure the heater is on a flat area, and keep it at least three feet away from other objects like curtains, bedding, furniture and clothing.
